Life At First Job

If you’re a fresher, how’s life going? If you’re about to apply for your first job, what’s happening inside you? And if you're an experienced professional, do you remember how your first job was?

When I applied for my NQT examination, I felt completely uncertain; I didn’t have any expectations. I simply showed up to take the exam without knowing exactly why I was doing it.

Surprisingly I cleared the exam. Shocked right? I didn't even prepare for the examination. I wasn’t all that invested, though. Sure, I felt happy, but it was the kind of happiness that lacked depth. It was just… there — flat, without any real emotion behind it.

After waiting a long time without any updates, I started to lose hope about the interview. I even shifted my focus to preparing for something else since there were no signs of any progress.

Eventually, I got the interview call, but I missed the email and ended up missing the interview too. Thankfully, another date was scheduled, and this time, I made sure not to miss it. After waiting so long, I gave the interview, cleared it, and felt a deep sense of gratitude. Everything happened so fast that before I knew it, Nagpur became my home, and my hometown turned into a place I visit occasionally.

Time changed, and so did everything else. Once, I shared meals and memories with my people, but now, I share food and space with strangers I never knew before. Now, there are no classmates, school friends, or college buddies. The people around me are no longer chuddy buddies; we simply call them colleagues.

And that’s when I said to myself, “Welcome to adulthood, dear.” No more saving coins in piggy banks or asking Mum for chocolate money. Now, I have a salary account where I save for daily expenses — or should I say, survival. My biggest stress isn’t exams or homework anymore; it’s hitting daily targets and meeting allocations. It’s no longer about friendships but about building connections.

Your first job is always a mess, isn’t it? Everything feels new, and you don’t even know the simplest terms. It gets frustrating when even the smallest things start bothering you. You keep running to your seniors for the tiniest help, and at times, it feels like your brain just stops working!

But seriously, tell me — how does it feel to be independent? Spending your own money, living away from home, and managing everything on your own. Fascinating, right? Don’t you just feel like, “Yep! I finally made it, and there’s no turning back now!”

Life at your first job is a rollercoaster of emotions — exciting, challenging, overwhelming, and sometimes downright nostalgic. You often find yourself longing for the carefree days of being a kid, but at the same time, there’s this undeniable sense of pride in seeing how far you’ve come.

The first job isn’t just about earning; it’s about learning — about work, life, and yourself. You stumble, you grow, and you realize that every step forward, no matter how small, is a win. It’s not perfect, but it’s yours, and that’s what makes it special. So, whether you’re a fresher navigating this new world, someone about to leap, or an experienced professional looking back, you made it, because there’s no looking back now!
